Day 42: Walk Barefoot on Grass

"Grass was well-known amongst Indian shamans for its soothing anti-ulcerative properties. When a papoose was sickly, the shaman would lay him down on a grass bank and sprinkle him with dew from the bark of a Great Conifer Tree, for 5 days and 5 nights (at least). Today, grass is widely available, of course, in parks, gardens and the like. The current theory is that the leaves contain herbacinium, a derivative of morphine, which 'rubs off' on the fibrous nerves of our bare feet, gets into the bloodstream and slows down our heart rate by up to 14%, thus relaxing us. Indeed, poets have long known this, as it is conclusively demonstrated by the following:"

Leaves of Grass by Walt Whitman
  A child said What is the grass? fetching it to me with full hands;
How could I answer the child? I do not know what it is any more than he.

I guess it must be the flag of my disposition, out of hopeful green
      stuff woven.

Or I guess it is the handkerchief of the Lord,
A scented gift and remembrancer designedly dropt,
Bearing the owner's name someway in the corners, that we may see
      and remark, and say Whose?

Or I guess the grass is itself a child, the produced babe of the vegetation.

Or I guess it is a uniform hieroglyphic,
And it means, Sprouting alike in broad zones and narrow zones,
Growing among black folks as among white,
Kanuck, Tuckahoe, Congressman, Cuff, I give them the same, I
      receive them the same.

And now it seems to me the beautiful uncut hair of graves.

Being that walking barefoot in the grass is one of my favorite things to do in general, I was definitely looking forward to today.
But then I was like "Oh wait, it's February and there's an inch of snow on the ground." Yeah, this was incredibly unpleasant.

Day 41

"Apply for a Knighthood"

I knew before doing this that I wouldn't be able actually get a knighthood, but it's worth a shot. I sent a letter to the Prime Minister of England today, detailing why I felt that I deserved to be honored as a knight. I know that I probably won't even hear back, but we'll see what happens.

Day 40

"Today play a practical joke"

So yeah, not too hard. I super glued a few quarters in tables and floors and whatnot, put a bunch of Nesquik into one of the washing machines, and I put a sticky note on Phill's mouse so that the sensor wouldn't work. Not too hard to pull off. Admittedly I could have gone for a lot more, but I'm still sick and I'm not really feeling up for next level shenanigans.

Day 39: Learn to Speak Swedish

"New languages open up possibilities for new meetings. Today, learn these useful phrases in Swedish. You never know when they may come in handy."

I have to say, this was kind of a pain in the ass. Swedish has so many different accents on letters, it makes it hard to learn how each one works.

Day 38: Spend some time in a church today

"Even the irreligious amongst us can appreciate the sanctuary that churches provide, away from the hyperkinetic madness of modern life. Breathe in the air of the centuries. Let the shadows envelop you. Light a candle for a long-lost friend. Contemplate the silence. Perhaps even find God."

This didn't seem like it would be so bad, even considering how uncomfortable I feel in churches. We actually have this really nice chapel on campus that I've been meaning to go to and check out. Unfortunately, it wasn't open. Masses are only on Sundays and Wednesdays I guess. But nonetheless, I got some nice pictures of it.

Day 37

"Today, eat and run"

Being that I've been sick all day, I really didn't get a chance to eat much at all. But I did go over to dinner with one of my friends. As soon as I was done, I got up and left. I felt like a huge jerk because he was almost done himself, but I still left. It was especially awkward because we were still planning on hanging out afterwards.

Day 36

"Say nothing today"

Since I'm out of state visiting family, I'm not really able to do that. So yeah.
